http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/help-sustain-the-human-rights-center-/65643 The Human Rights Center is a community center located in Carrboro, North Carolina. Students and community members work together in support of human rights and connect theory to practice through service learning and intercultural exchanges. We take on many projects: activities for youth, workshops for the community, and providing a safe space for learning and sharing. With support from the Strowd Roses Foundation, the HRC has launched "an online workers' center." for day laborers -- www.workandjobs.org The Human Rights Center is sponsoring a mock Constitutional Convention to revise the U.S. Constitution at the Century Center on October 5th. Please send your suggestions to judith_blau@unc.edu On June 10th, the HRC successfully petitioned the Town of Chapel Hill to adopt the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Families. This makes Chapel Hill the first city in the nation to adopt this Convention! The adoption of this convention and subsequent discussion at the town hall meeting is an important step towards addressing problems that local migrants and their families face. We look forward to continuing this discussion. |
